Washington (USA), 24 April (LaPresse) – New revelations about Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth, at the centre of ongoing controversy over his handling of classified information. It is the Wall Street Journal that writes that the Pentagon chief went so far as to threaten Admiral Christopher Grady, who at the time held the interim post of head of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, after the leak of information about an invitation to Elon Musk for a classified briefing on China, later blocked by Donald Trump, to ‘hook him up to a frickin’ polygraph’. According to Hegseth, Grady was one of the possible perpetrators of the leak. Threats were also allegedly made against General Doug Sims, director of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. As a result of the climate of suspicion, at least five politically-appointed officials were fired or resigned, and Hegseth said he would report some of his staff for criminal investigation. Meanwhile, the Defence chief is under investigation by the Pentagon Inspector General for alleged mishandling of classified information related to the Signalgate affair. While it is more recent the revelation that Hegseth allegedly shared other classified information on a chat in which his wife, brother and personal lawyer were also included.
