Blackout, Italian Foreign Ministry monitoring situation in the Iberian Peninsula

Rome, April 28 (LaPresse) – The Italian Foreign Ministry continues to monitor the situation in the Iberian Peninsula following the widespread power outage that has significantly impacted airport and long-distance rail traffic in Spain and Portugal, as well as causing widespread disruptions to healthcare and banking services in both countries. Currently, around 3,600 Italians (including over 900 non-residents) are registered in Spain via the "Where We Are in the World" platform, and about 580 Italians (over 260 non-residents) in Portugal. In Spain, power has been partially restored in the north and south, while the central region remains without electricity. Port traffic is normal; air traffic is operational but reduced; long-distance rail services are suspended. The situation in Portugal is more critical, with significant impacts also on hospitals and airports. Minister Antonio Tajani, currently on a mission in Valencia, is closely monitoring the situation in coordination with diplomatic and consular offices in the two countries. The Crisis Unit's Operations Room, which can be contacted for assistance at +39 0636225, has been further strengthened.
