Madrid, April 29 (LaPresse) – Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez has announced the creation of a commission of inquiry to investigate the massive blackout that left the country without electricity yesterday. Speaking after the meeting of the National Security Council, Sánchez explained that the commission will be led by the Ministry for Ecological Transition, headed by Minister Sara Aagesen. “The technicians of the electrical grid are still analyzing their systems,” and “at the same time, private electricity production companies are conducting telemetric analyses of their management and production centers. This should allow us to understand in more detail what happened during those five seconds that caused the system failure,” Sánchez added. “The Spanish government will get to the bottom of this issue and implement the reforms and measures necessary to ensure this doesn’t happen again,” he continued, “and of course we will hold private operators accountable.” Sánchez also denied that yesterday’s blackout was caused by a lack of nuclear energy and announced he will request an independent report from Brussels.
