Toronto (Canada), May 2 (LaPresse) – Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has announced that next Tuesday he will meet with US President Donald Trump at the White House. The meeting comes as Trump continues his trade war and threats of annexation. Carney's Liberal Party unexpectedly won the federal elections on Monday, a victory widely seen as a response to Trump, whose trade war and attacks on Canadian sovereignty have angered voters. Since becoming prime minister following Justin Trudeau's resignation, Carney has emphasized the importance of Canada's oldest allies, the United Kingdom and France. "On Tuesday, I had a very constructive conversation with President Trump, and we agreed to meet next Tuesday in Washington," said Carney. "My government will fight for the best possible deal for Canada." Trump mocked Carney's predecessor, calling him "Governor Trudeau," but did not provoke Carney.
