Washington (USA), May 2 (LaPresse) – The White House has released President Donald Trump’s 2026 budget proposal, which aims to drastically cut, if not eliminate, spending on many government programs. Trump’s plan includes sharp reductions in childcare assistance, disease research, renewable energy, and international peacekeeping efforts, while billions would be allocated to a mass deportation program. Overall, it represents a significant 23% cut to national accounts.
At the same time, the White House expressed confidence that Congress will unlock $375 billion in new funding for the Departments of Homeland Security and Defense as part of Trump’s “great, beautiful law” that includes tax cuts and spending reductions. His goal is to push back what he calls a “foreign invasion,” even though migrant arrivals in the U.S. are at historic lows.
The State Department and international programs would lose 84% of their funding and receive only $9.6 billion, reflecting ongoing deep cuts. The Department of Health and Human Services would see a $33.3 billion reduction, and the Department of Education’s spending would be cut by $12 billion. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the National Institutes of Health (NIH) would face steep cuts. In contrast, the Department of Defense would receive an additional $113.3 billion and Homeland Security $42.3 billion more.
