Melbourne (Australia), May 3 (LaPresse/AP) – Polls have opened across Australia for the general elections. Voting, which spans three time zones and covers a two-hour period, is taking place from midnight Italian time (8 a.m. local) to 10 a.m. Italian time (6 p.m. local) in eastern Australia. In Western Australia, polling stations will open and close two hours later. Roughly half of the ballots had already been cast, though not yet counted, as early and postal voting began on April 22.
