Cairo (Egypt), May 3 (LaPresse/AP) – Sudan’s paramilitary group RSF (Rapid Support Forces) has claimed a “crushing victory,” saying it has taken control of the key city of Al Nahud in West Kordofan state. The area houses the headquarters of the army’s 18th Infantry Brigade. On its Telegram channel, the RSF stated that it had destroyed military vehicles and seized weapons and ammunition during the battle for Al Nahud. The group also claimed to have secured the city's facilities and markets after defeating government forces.
Meanwhile, the Al Nahud Resistance Committees condemned the RSF’s assault, which reportedly began Thursday morning. “They invaded the city, stormed residential neighborhoods, terrorized unarmed civilians, and committed cold-blooded murders against innocent people whose only crime was holding onto their dignity and refusing to abandon their homes to the machinery of death and terror,” the committees said in a Facebook post.
