Frankfurt (Germany), 6 May (LaPresse) – Former Chancellor Angela Merkel has wished her former rival Friedrich Merz all the best for his election as chancellor. ‘Merkel warmly congratulated Friedrich Merz on his election via text message and wished him strength, luck and joy,’ a spokeswoman for the former chancellor told Dpa. The spokeswoman had previously stated that it was ‘unfortunately not possible’ for Merkel to follow the second round of voting as a guest in the VIP gallery. Bundestag President Julia Klöckner told Phoenix television that Merkel had interrupted her holiday to attend the chancellor election.
