Strasbourg (France), May 6 (LaPresse) – The European Union is planning to target around €100 billion worth of U.S. goods with additional tariffs if ongoing trade negotiations with the United States fail to yield a satisfactory outcome. This was reported by Bloomberg, citing sources familiar with the matter.

According to the report, the countermeasures could be shared with EU member states as early as tomorrow, with consultations expected to last a month before the list is finalized. The €100 billion package is intended to be used only if current efforts to persuade Donald Trump not to reintroduce a 20% U.S. tariff on EU products are unsuccessful.

As Euractiv reports, citing three informed sources, the new package is designed to give the EU greater leverage in the context of a tense transatlantic deadlock. Both sides are reportedly engaged in talks to avoid an escalation of the trade war following Trump's imposition of tariffs on the EU and other trading partners.
