Germany: Intelligence temporarily suspends classification of AfD as far-right extremist

Frankfurt (Germany), May 8 (LaPresse) – Germany’s domestic intelligence agency, the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution (BfV), has temporarily suspended its classification of Alternative für Deutschland (AfD) as a confirmed far-right extremist organization. The decision follows a legal challenge filed by the AfD with the Cologne administrative court and a “standstill agreement” on the matter. As a result, the BfV announced that it "will temporarily suspend the classification of AfD as a confirmed far-right extremist organization until the court issues its decision in this expedited procedure, and will continue to monitor and treat the AfD only as a suspected case." The classification is therefore suspended but not revoked.
