Lahore (Pakistan), May 8 (LaPresse/AP) – India has evacuated thousands of people from villages near the heavily militarized border with Pakistan in the disputed Kashmir region. Tens of thousands spent the night in shelters as tensions between the two countries reached new heights. On the Pakistani-administered side of the border, around 2,000 residents also fled their homes. According to travel advisories from several airlines, flights have been suspended at more than 20 airports in northern and western India. Pakistan has suspended flights at four of its airports—Islamabad, Karachi, Lahore, and Sialkot—according to the Civil Aviation Authority.
