New York (USA), May 8 (LaPresse/AP) – “We are reviewing the visa status of the offenders and vandals who occupied the Columbia University library. Pro-Hamas thugs are no longer welcome in our great nation,” wrote U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio on X, referring to the clashes at Columbia University in New York during a pro-Palestinian protest. According to local police, at least 80 people were detained. Videos posted on social media show a long line of NYPD officers entering the library just hours after dozens of demonstrators breached campus security barriers and rushed into the building, hanging Palestinian flags and banners on the shelves of a reading room. Footage published by a journalist present at the scene shows more than 30 people being escorted out of the library by officers with their hands tied behind their backs.
