Brussels, May 12 (LaPresse) – "Today, we will discuss this initiative presented by Italy" regarding the ban on mobile phones in schools across the European Union for students up to 14 years old, "signed by several countries in the Union, including Austria, France, Hungary, Italy, Slovakia, and Sweden, who have expressly signed it. There is already announced support from Lithuania, Cyprus, Greece, and Belgium, but other countries should also support our motion." This was stated by the Italian Minister of Education, Giuseppe Valditara, in a press briefing in Brussels, where he is participating in the Education, Youth, Culture, and Sport Council. He added, "The Polish Presidency has supported this proposal." The minister explained, "We propose eliminating mobile phones from schools in the European Union, definitely up to 14 years old, but we are also considering whether it would be appropriate to further extend this ban, as some non-European countries are doing as well. The data is dramatic and has a dual impact: first, an impact on the emotional and psychological development of young people, concentration difficulties, memory issues, and even the development of imagination. There is psychological growth that is damaged in some way by mobile phone abuse. Then, there is the issue of the impact on teaching."
