Rome, May 14 (LaPresse) – A 6.1-magnitude earthquake was recorded last night off the coast of the Greek island of Crete. According to Greek media, the epicenter was located 20 kilometers south of the island of Kasos, at a focal depth of around 64 km. The quake was felt particularly on Crete and Rhodes. According to Efthimios Lekkas, president of the Hellenic Organization for Earthquake Protection, quoted by broadcaster ERT, earthquakes at this depth occur only once and are not at all connected to the Santorini or Turkish quakes. "The geodynamic context is completely different — we are on the Greek arc, while the Santorini earthquakes occur in a completely different setting, within the volcanic arc, and the earthquakes in Turkey occur along the Anatolian fault," the expert emphasized.
