Milan, 16 May (LaPresse) – "2018 was one of the most important moments in NATO's history. It was when President Trump, at the Atlantic Alliance summit, examined the different contributions of different countries, some of which were less than 1% of GDP: less than 1% of their economy was spent on defence. Since then, we have seen improvements and I can tell you that in six weeks' time we are heading towards a summit where virtually every NATO member will have a percentage equal to or above 2%, but more importantly, for many of them it will be above 4% and all will have agreed on the target of reaching 5% in the next decade." This was stated by US Secretary of State Marc Rubio in an interview with Fox News. ‘It will be the first time in NATO's history that goals and targets will be achieved that will allow NATO partners to represent more than 50% of the Alliance. If it happens, it will be a historic moment,’ he added.
