Milan, May 21 (LaPresse) – Russian President Vladimir Putin visited the Kursk region yesterday, according to a statement from the Kremlin. “During his working visit, the president met with representatives of volunteer organizations” that supported local residents following an attack by Ukrainian forces in the area. “The head of state also met with the acting governor of the Kursk region, Alexander Khinshtein. In the city of Kurchatov, Vladimir Putin held a meeting with the heads of the region’s municipalities. In addition, the president visited the Kursk NPP-2 nuclear power plant, currently under construction,” the Kremlin added. This marks Putin’s first visit to Kursk since Russia claimed in April to have expelled Ukrainian forces from the region. Ukrainian troops had launched a surprise incursion into Kursk in August 2024 – the largest cross-border raid by Kyiv's forces in nearly two and a half years of war – before being repelled by Russian troops nine months later. Ukraine has not confirmed its expulsion from the area.
