Milan, 24 May (LaPresse) – "Washington has no objection to Iran's civil nuclear programme. A distinction must be made between a programme for peaceful use and enrichment technology. The United States has no objection to Iran's civil nuclear programme. On the contrary, in true Trump style, it wants to participate and do business. Iran has stated that it wants to add more nuclear capacity with six or seven new power plants and has talked about cooperation with Saudi Arabia. The difficult issue is enrichment." This was stated in an interview with Corriere della Sera by Rafael Grossi, director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). "Like other countries, Iran has always wanted to have control over everything that is called the fuel cycle, including enrichment technology: this is not prohibited from a legal point of view. The United States does not trust Iran and fears that it will use this process to move towards nuclear weapons. Iran has always denied this and responds: “We have the right to this technology, we do not accept prohibitions.”‘ From his point of view, ’we are talking about something much simpler, à la Trump. Zero enrichment, zero sanctions.“ 'We must not be naive, but an agreement is necessary and ways are being sought to bring it home. Trump wants it too. We must support the diplomatic route; we cannot think of a military solution: it would be a disaster. The Iranian threats are not empty,” he stresses.
