Milan, June 1 (LaPresse) – "Like all Italian governments, we are friends of Israel. I was the first to distance myself from Netanyahu's actions. I believe the reasons for the operations in Gaza have been over for months, from a military objectives point of view. Since that moment, every military action has no logic or justification, because it endangers civilians. Netanyahu continues with the attacks, and for me, it's a completely wrong and counterproductive choice. It fuels those who want to destroy Israel by feeding a spiral of hatred."
This is how Defence Minister Guido Crosetto spoke in an interview with Repubblica. "Hamas," he added, "must be fought and destroyed. Rooted out from that land. But it no longer makes sense to do so with military methods now: we need other approaches. The international community can no longer accept civilian casualties, women and children: these are not acceptable collateral damage, and Israel must understand this. As for the ceasefire: Hamas acts this way because it is not interested in casualties. It exploits bombs and starvation to recruit."
