Washington (USA), June 11 (LaPresse) – No Italian citizens residing illegally in the United States will be transferred to Guantanamo before being repatriated to Italy. This was indirectly confirmed by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) in response to a request for clarification from LaPresse. In an email, the department referred to a statement by White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt, who said, “This story is fake news. It’s not going to happen,” in reference to a Washington Post article that claimed citizens from allied countries, including Italy, might be sent to the Guantanamo detention facility.
