New York (USA), 17 June (LaPresse/AP) – Democratic candidate for mayor of New York Brad Lander was arrested by federal agents in an immigration court after linking arms with a person whom authorities were trying to detain. An Associated Press journalist witnessed Lander's arrest in a federal building in Manhattan. The person with whom Lander was leaving the courtroom was also arrested. Lander had spent the morning observing immigration court hearings and told an AP journalist that he was there to “escort” some immigrants out of the building. In the moments before he was handcuffed, agents physically tried to separate Lander from the man they wanted to detain. The mayoral candidate briefly tried to remain near the detainee before being dragged away.
