Iran, Tajani: ‘Attack was in the air, Italian security is a priority’

Rome, 22 June (LaPresse) – "Our priority at this moment is the safety of our compatriots. I have spoken with our embassy in Tehran, in Tel Aviv, and the consulate in Jerusalem, and everything possible is being done to get Italians who want to leave out of there as soon as possible. A flight will depart from Sharm el Sheikh with Italian nationals arriving from Jerusalem and Tel Aviv, and we are working to accompany Italians who want to leave Iran to Azerbaijan." This was stated by Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani in a link-up with the special edition of Tg1, after the US attack in Iran. 'We have brought back some Italian soldiers who were in Baghdad due to the risk of retaliation, given that it was an Italian and American base. Our people returned via Kuwait yesterday. The attack was in the air, and from the movements we were seeing, we understood that we had to continue working for the safety of our fellow citizens, who are a priority,‘ added the Deputy Prime Minister, ’I have already called a meeting with the ambassadors in the area for today."
