USA, Zohran Mamdani wins the Democratic primary for New York mayoral race

New York (New York, USA), June 25 (LaPresse) – Zohran Mamdani declared victory in the Democratic primary for mayor of New York City, after Andrew Cuomo conceded defeat in a surprising upset. The 33-year-old progressive candidate, virtually unknown at the start of the campaign, secured a substantial lead over the more experienced former governor, who has been involved in scandals. Although the final result will be confirmed once all votes are counted, Mamdani had already gained a strong lead just hours after polls closed.
With the victory now secured, Mamdani, a democratic socialist who ran a vigorous campaign focused on the cost of living, told his supporters: “I will be your Democratic nominee for mayor of New York City.”
“I will be the mayor of all New Yorkers — whether you voted for me, for Governor Cuomo, or felt too disillusioned with a long-broken political system to vote at all,” he said. “I will work to be a mayor you can be proud of.”
