Iran, Trump administration to provide confidential briefing to Congress on attacks

Washington, June 26 (LaPresse) – American senators will meet today with top national security officials for a confidential briefing following lawmakers’ questions about President Donald Trump’s decision to bomb three Iranian nuclear sites and the success of those attacks. The briefing, originally scheduled for Tuesday but postponed, coincides with a Senate vote planned for this week on a resolution requiring prior congressional approval if Trump decides to strike Iran again. Democrats and some Republicans have said the White House overstepped its bounds by not consulting Congress and want more information about the intelligence Trump relied on to authorize the attacks. “Senators deserve full transparency, and the administration has a legal obligation to accurately inform Congress about what is happening,” said Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer, who called Tuesday the postponement of the Senate and House briefings “scandalous.” CIA Director John Ratcliffe, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth are expected to brief senators today. A similar briefing for House members has been postponed to Friday.
