Brussels, 27 June (LaPresse) β The Committee of Representatives of the EU Member States (Coreper) this morning formalised the agreement reached by the European Council on the six-month renewal of sectoral sanctions against Russia, due to expire on 31 July. This was reported by EU diplomatic sources. There was therefore no feared veto by Hungary. EU ambassadors then addressed the 18th package of sanctions, during which Slovakia confirmed its position that it cannot yet give its consent, pending reassurances on its energy security compromised by the decision to stop importing Russian energy. βOn this, bilateral contacts with the Commission will continue. Coreper will return to the issue as soon as the reservations are resolved following the bilateral contacts, hopefully by the end of next week,β the source added. The Polish presidency had hoped to end its six-month term with the approval of the new sanctions, but the green light is now expected during the Danish presidency.
