Melbourne (Australia), 2 July (LaPresse/AP) – Flight delayed due to snake on board. It happened in Australia, where a Virgin Australia flight covering the route between Melbourne and Brisbane was delayed by two hours after a snake was found in the hold of the aircraft. The animal was spotted during boarding. It was a 60-centimetre-long green snake, a so-called “green tree snake”. Mark Pelley, the expert who recovered the animal, said he thought it might be poisonous when he approached it in the dark compartment, but it turned out to be harmless. ‘It was only after I caught the snake that I realised it wasn't poisonous. Until then, it had seemed very dangerous,’ Pelley said. He explained that the animal is native to the Brisbane region, so he suspects it may have escaped from a passenger's luggage during a flight from Brisbane to Melbourne.
