Milan, 2 July (LaPresse) – According to an assessment by Ukrainian intelligence, North Korea is ready to triple the number of its troops fighting for Russia, sending another 25,000-30,000 soldiers to assist Moscow. According to the assessment, seen by CNN, the troops could arrive in Russia in the coming months, adding to the 11,000 soldiers already sent in November to repel the Ukrainian incursion into the Russian region of Kursk. About 4,000 of these North Korean soldiers were killed or wounded during the deployment, according to Western sources, but since then cooperation between Pyongyang and Moscow has strengthened. Kiev has described the Russian Defence Ministry as capable of providing ‘necessary equipment, weapons and ammunition’ with the aim of ‘further integration into Russian combat units’. The assessment states that ‘there is a high possibility’ that North Korean troops are engaged in combat in Russian-occupied areas of Ukraine ‘to reinforce the Russian contingent, including during large-scale offensive operations.’
