Brussels, July 14 (LaPresse) – "We are an important trading partner of the United States. But if you look at the numbers, they account for only about 13% of global trade. That means 87% is outside of them. And I believe there's a clear openness in other parts of the world to engage with Europe. I strongly welcome the agreement in principle reached with Indonesia over the weekend. It’s something we will push to continue and finalize. And of course, another top priority will be to pass the Mercosur agreement during the Danish presidency."
This was stated by Danish Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen, representing the current EU presidency, upon arriving at the Foreign Affairs Trade Council in Brussels while speaking about U.S. tariffs.
"I think we should be honest. It’s about finding balance, and we still have time until August 1 to finalize these agreements. I’m confident the clear conclusion will be that we want a deal with the United States — but it must be a fair one. We are 450 million citizens in the European customs union, which gives us significant leverage. So we want to address this issue in line with the old saying: if you want peace, prepare for war," he added.
