Turin, July 17 (LaPresse) – The voting age will be lowered to 16 across the entire United Kingdom for the next general election. The announcement was made by Labour Prime Minister Keir Starmer. The reform, which aligns with current rules in Scotland and Wales, was part of Labour’s electoral manifesto.
"I think it's really important that 16- and 17-year-olds are allowed to vote, because they are old enough to work and pay taxes," said Starmer.
Around 1.5 million 16- and 17-year-olds will be eligible to vote in the upcoming general election.
