Ukraine: new sanctions from the United Kingdom against Russian secret service agents

London (United Kingdom), July 18 (LaPresse) – The United Kingdom today imposed new sanctions against Russian military intelligence units and officers deemed responsible for the 2022 bombing attack on a theater in southern Ukraine, which killed hundreds of civilians.

The British Foreign Office announced that it has sanctioned 18 officers working for the Russian military intelligence agency, known as the GRU.

The officials are also accused of targeting the family of a former Russian spy who was later poisoned with a nerve agent, and of conducting a long-running cyberattack campaign aimed at sowing chaos across Europe and undermining democratic institutions.

"GRU spies are waging a campaign to destabilize Europe, undermine Ukraine’s sovereignty, and threaten the security of British citizens," said UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy.
