Rome, July 19 (LaPresse) – According to reports, two Italian nationals, Gaetano Cateno Mirabella Costa (born in Taormina on July 12, 1980) and Fernando Eduardo Artese (born in Buenos Aires on September 19, 1961, and also an Argentine citizen), are currently being held pending deportation at the Alligator Alcatraz detention facility in Miami-Dade County, Florida. Mirabella Costa was arrested on January 3, 2025, for possession of controlled substances without a valid prescription, assault, and battery against a person over the age of 65. He was held in Marion County Jail (Florida). His legal proceedings concluded on May 7 with a six-month sentence. Upon his release, deportation to Italy was ordered for immigration violations. He was reportedly transferred to Alligator Alcatraz on July 9. Artese, an Italian-Argentine citizen residing in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (Spain) with his wife and two children (registered with AIRE at the Italian vice consulate in Arona), was arrested in June 2025 for overstaying his visa. He was reportedly stopped by highway police during a traffic stop involving a commercial vehicle flagged for an unpaid fine. The check revealed that he had been working while in the U.S. under a tourist ESTA permit. His family is also in contact with the Argentine consulate general in Miami.
