Thailand-Cambodia: report accuses Bangkok of using cluster bombs

Milan, 25 July (LaPresse) – In a post on social media, the Cambodian Mine Action and Victim Assistance Authority (CMAA) said it ‘expresses its deepest alarm and strongest condemnation following reports that the Royal Thai Armed Forces used cluster munitions today, 25 July 2025, in a border area within Cambodian territory.’ According to initial reports from local authorities and demining teams, cluster munitions were used in Phnom Khmouch and in the village of Techo Thammachart, near the border with Thailand. The first attack took place at 5.25 a.m. local time (12.25 a.m. in the UK), while the second occurred at 6.50 a.m. local time, immediately putting civilians and deminers at risk. This was reported by The Guardian. The CMAA described the incident as a ‘serious violation of international humanitarian norms’. Cluster munitions are banned by the 2008 Convention on Cluster Munitions because of their indiscriminate impact and persistent danger, particularly to children.
