Athens (Greece), 29 July (LaPresse/AP) – Protesters calling for an end to the war in Gaza demonstrated against the arrival of an Israeli cruise ship in Crete. This is the third protest of this kind on Greek islands in the last week. According to images shown by local media, protesters unfurled a huge Palestinian flag in the port of Agios Nikolaos and shouted “Free Palestine, Free Palestine” as tourists aboard the Crown Iris disembarked and left by bus for their tour of the island. Riot police kept the crowd away from the pier where the cruise ship was moored, while scuffles broke out between protesters and law enforcement officers. Local media reported that at one point, officers used pepper spray to keep the crowd at bay. Four people were arrested, according to local media reports. A video shows police leading away a man with his hands cuffed behind his back as he shouts ‘Free Palestine, Free Palestine.’
