Brussels, July 30 (LaPresse) – Digital service taxes "will be on the table" in ongoing talks between the United States and the European Union. This was stated by U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, following the broad EU-US trade agreement signed by Donald Trump and Ursula von der Leyen in Scotland on Sunday.
“I expect to continue talking with the European Commission’s trade experts? Yes. They called me this morning to discuss other topics, including digital service taxes and attacks on our tech companies. These will be on the table,” Lutnick said in an interview with CNBC. “There is still much to discuss,” he added.
Regarding the August 1 deadline, when the tariffs announced by Trump will come into effect, Lutnick stressed that, apart from the case of China, for which “I will let the people working with China give you a briefing on what they have achieved and where they stand,” “for the rest of the world, everything will be ready by Friday. And Friday isn’t that far away. So, as we said, August 1 is the date we will set all these tariffs, and from there we will start working.”
