Rome, 1 August (LaPresse) – Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said he was ‘disappointed’ that US President Donald Trump had increased tariffs on Canada from 25% to 35%. In a statement published on X, the Ottawa prime minister stressed that the United States had justified such a rate on the basis of cross-border flows of fentanyl, but pointed out that ‘Canada accounts for only 1% of US fentanyl imports’ and that it had ‘worked hard to further reduce these volumes’. ‘We will continue to work with the United States to stop the scourge of fentanyl and save lives in both our countries,’ Carney said.
