Tel Aviv, Aug 5 (LaPresse) – Israel will gradually allow goods to enter the Gaza Strip through the private commercial sector, according to a new mechanism announced by the Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories (COGAT), as reported by the Times of Israel. COGAT stated the initiative aims to “increase the volume of aid entering the Gaza Strip while reducing reliance on aid collection by the UN and international organizations.” A limited number of local merchants have been approved by defense authorities based on specific criteria and strict security checks. Approved goods include basic food items, baby formula, fruits and vegetables, and hygiene products. Payments will be made exclusively via bank transfers under a monitored system. All goods will be inspected by Israeli authorities at Gaza’s border crossings before entry.
