Brussels, August 5 (LaPresse) – “Car tariffs haven’t been lowered yet, so the current rates still apply: 25% plus 2.5% under Most-Favored Nation treatment,” said a senior EU official during a briefing with journalists on EU-US trade relations. “But we expect this to change very soon,” bringing the rate down to the 15% cap agreed upon in the Trump–von der Leyen deal reached in Scotland. The official clarified that Friday’s executive order by Trump did not include car tariffs, as it dealt with so-called reciprocal duties. Auto tariffs, like those in other sectors, are based on a different legal framework. “It’s a separate tariff measure,” the official explained, “so we expect it will take a bit more time—but those results should come very, very soon as well.”
