Frankfurt (Germany), Aug. 13 (LaPresse) – Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will arrive in Berlin today and will personally participate in a video conference with US President Donald Trump at the Chancellery together with Chancellor Friedrich Merz and several EU leaders ahead of the meeting in Alaska between Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin. This was reported by Bild and broadcaster ARD, citing security sources. The Ukrainian president is expected in the German capital at noon, government sources told DPA. According to the German government, a video conference with Trump, Zelensky, and European government leaders is planned in several rounds. Discussions will focus on how to respond to Russia's territorial claims and what security demands could be met. Before consultations with Trump and US Vice President JD Vance, Bild reports, a virtual meeting with European leaders is scheduled for 2 p.m. In addition to Britain, France, Italy, Poland, and Finland will participate, as well as European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, European Council President António Costa, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, and Zelensky. Afterwards, at 3:00 p.m., Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance will join the European roundtable. This will be an attempt to convince Trump to take a common line with the Europeans. After half an hour, at 4:30 p.m., there will be further virtual consultations between the Europeans without the Americans to evaluate the call with Trump.
