Seoul (South Korea), August 14 (LaPresse) – The powerful sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has dismissed South Korea’s claims that the North is removing some of its loudspeakers along the inter-Korean border, mocking Seoul’s government for continuing to hope for a revival of diplomatic relations between the rival nations divided by war.

The South Korean military said over the weekend that it had detected North Korea taking down some of its loudspeakers, just days after the South dismantled its own front-line speakers used for anti-North propaganda broadcasts in an effort to ease tensions.

Kim Yo Jong reiterated North Korea’s earlier statements that it has no immediate interest in resuming stalled negotiations with Washington and Seoul, citing the upcoming joint military drills between the allies as evidence of their continued hostility toward Pyongyang.

According to AP photojournalists, the North Korean loudspeakers are still visible in border areas accessible to civilians in the South.
