Al Jazeera: ‘Hamas accepts new ceasefire proposal’

Turin, 18 August (LaPresse) – Hamas has accepted a new ceasefire proposal put forward by Egypt and Qatar, the two countries leading mediation efforts between the group and Israel. This was reported by a source to Al Jazeera Arabic. ‘We have informed the mediators of our approval of their proposal, which was presented yesterday,’ the source said. According to the Qatari channel Al Arabi, this is a revised version of Hamas' latest response in the round of negotiations, which concerned a framework agreement for a 60-day ceasefire. However, the Saudi broadcaster Al Arabiya reported that the proposal represents a compromise between a complete ceasefire, i.e. an end to the war, and a temporary truce, which includes the release of hostages and a gradual withdrawal of the IDF from Gaza.
