Ukraine: NATO chiefs of staff meet, security guarantees at centre of discussions

Brussels, 20 August (LaPresse/AP) – NATO chiefs of staff are meeting today by videoconference to discuss security guarantees for Ukraine, as part of efforts to end the war started by Russia. Admiral Giuseppe Cavo Dragone said that, in addition to the 32 defence chiefs, US General Alexus Grynkewich, Supreme Allied Commander Europe, is also taking part in the talks. Last Friday, US President Donald Trump met with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska and on Monday received Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at the White House. These meetings did not result in any concrete progress. Kiev's European allies are seeking to establish a force capable of supporting any peace agreement, and military leaders are assessing how such a security force could operate.
