Ukraine confirms summoning of ambassador in France over Salvini’s remarks

Rome, August 23 (LaPresse) – Italian sources confirmed to LaPresse that France summoned the ambassador in Paris, Emanuela D’Alessandro, on Thursday following comments by Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini about President Emmanuel Macron’s support for sending troops to Ukraine. This latest attack reportedly led to protests from the French side, first with Giorgia Meloni’s diplomatic advisor Fabrizio Saggio and the Italian Foreign Ministry, and then with the summoning of the ambassador in Paris. “Taches al tram,” (meaning “stick to the tram” in Milanese), Salvini said on the sidelines of an event discussing the possible troop deployment, “you go if you want. Put on your helmet, vest, rifle, and go to Ukraine.”
