Milan, 25 August (LaPresse) – ‘Journalists are not a target. Hospitals are not a target.’ This was stated by Ravina Shamdasani, spokesperson for the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, in a statement to the Turkish news agency Anadolu. ‘The killing of journalists in Gaza should shock the world, not with stunned silence, but with concrete action, demanding that those responsible be held accountable and that justice be done. In a situation of war and famine, the Israeli authorities continue to deny entry to international journalists,’ she said. ‘At least 247 Palestinian journalists have been killed in Gaza since 7 October 2023. These journalists are the eyes and ears of the international community and must be protected. Their killings, and those of countless other civilians, must be subject to independent and prompt investigations and justice must be done,’ the spokesperson for the UN human rights office concluded.
