Milan, 31 August (LaPresse) – A post-war plan is circulating within the Trump administration to build a “Middle East Riviera” on the ruins of Gaza, modelled on Donald Trump's promise to take control of the Strip, which would transform it into a territory under US trusteeship for at least 10 years. This is revealed exclusively by the Washington Post (WP), which cites a 38-page prospectus it was able to view, which shows that there would be a temporary transfer of all of Gaza's more than 2 million inhabitants through what are described as “voluntary” departures to another country or to reserved and secure areas within the enclave during reconstruction. According to one of the proposals, Palestinians would be paid incentives to leave. In particular, those who own land would be offered a digital token in exchange for the redevelopment rights to their properties, to be used to finance a new life elsewhere or possibly redeemable for an apartment in one of the six to eight new “artificial intelligence-powered smart cities” to be built in Gaza, the WP writes. Each Palestinian who chooses to leave would receive a cash payment of $5,000 and subsidies to cover four years of rent elsewhere, as well as a year's worth of food.
