Jalalabad (Afghanistan), 2 September (LaPresse/AP) – The death toll from the earthquake that struck eastern Afghanistan has risen to 900, with 3,000 injured. This was reported to the Associated Press by Yousaf Hammad, spokesperson for the Afghan National Disaster Management Authority. “The injured are being evacuated, so these figures could change significantly,” he said, 'the earthquake caused landslides in some areas, blocking roads. Some have been reopened and those still closed will be reopened to allow access to areas that were difficult to reach." The 6.0-magnitude earthquake struck a mountainous region late on Sunday evening, razing entire villages to the ground.
