Milan, 4 September (LaPresse) – In a statement released at the end of the Council of Ministers meeting, Portuguese Prime Minister Luís Montenegro addressed the country ‘with deep sadness and dismay’ over yesterday's accident in Lisbon, where the funicular railway known as “Elevador da Gloria” derailed. Regarding the number of victims, he said: ‘According to the latest data confirmed by the health authorities and the Institute of Legal Medicine and Forensic Sciences, we have confirmed 16 deaths and five seriously injured.’ This was reported by Publico. The Civil Protection Agency, which in a report published this morning had counted 17 deaths, admitted the oversight.
