Milan, 5 September (LaPresse) – Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is considering closing the French consulate in Jerusalem in response to Emmanuel Macron's decision to recognise the Palestinian state. This was reported by Israeli Deputy Foreign Minister Sharren Haskel to Radio France's correspondent in Jerusalem, as reported by FranceInfo. The closure of the consulate is “on the Israeli prime minister's table”, she said. ‘We did it with Norway, with Ireland, and we could do it with others,’ she continued. Haskel criticises Macron for ‘trying to push all neighbouring states to take this action’ of international recognition of the State of Palestine. On 22 September, the French president will co-chair, together with the Saudi prince, a conference at the UN headquarters in New York on the ‘two-state solution’, during which Paris will formalise, together with other countries such as Australia, Belgium and Canada, its recognition of the Palestinian state.
