Portugal: preliminary report on Lisbon accident expected today

Lisbon (Portugal), 5 September (LaPresse/AP) – The preliminary technical report from the government office for air and rail accident investigations into Wednesday's accident in Lisbon, where the “Elevador da Gloria” tram-funicular connecting the upper and lower parts of the city derailed and crashed into a building, is expected to be published today in Portugal. Police chief investigator Nelson Oliveira said that a more comprehensive preliminary police report is expected within 45 days. The wreckage of the tram was removed from the site during the night and placed in police custody. The Portuguese Judicial Police has meanwhile announced that the nationalities of the 16 people who died in the derailment have been confirmed, after being scientifically identified with the collaboration of the National Institute of Legal Medicine and Forensic Sciences. They are five Portuguese, two South Koreans, one Swiss, three British, two Canadians, one Ukrainian, one American and one French woman.
