Rome, 6 September (LaPresse/AP) – The South Korean Foreign Minister has stated that over 300 Korean citizens were arrested during a raid by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) at a Hyundai factory in Georgia. Approximately 475 workers at the plant were arrested during the raid. National Security officials said some workers were arrested for entering the United States illegally, while others remained in the country after their visas expired. The South Korean government expressed ‘concern and regret’ over the operation targeting its citizens. ‘The business activities of our investors and the rights of our citizens should not be unfairly violated in the process of US law enforcement,’ South Korean Foreign Ministry spokesman Lee Jaewoong said in a televised statement from Seoul. Lee said the ministry is sending diplomats from its embassy in Washington and consulate in Atlanta to the scene and is planning to form an on-site response team.
