Rome, Sept. 7 (LaPresse) – Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar harshly criticized European plans to recognize a Palestinian state, warning that such moves would push Israel to take reciprocal measures. According to the Times of Israel, Sa'ar, in a joint press conference in Jerusalem with Danish Foreign Minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen, called the positions of some European states "a tremendous mistake." He reiterated that unilateral recognition "would be a gift for Hamas," as it would link recognition to the massacre of October 7, 2023, led by Hamas, which triggered the ongoing war. "That is how the Palestinians saw it. It will not bring us closer to peace or security. It will destabilize the region," he said. "This will push Israel to adopt unilateral decisions, and that would be a serious mistake," warned Sa'ar, calling on "responsible states in Europe, including Denmark," to oppose this move: "We still have time to prevent it."
