Milan, 15 September. (LaPresse) – "It is difficult to convince Moscow with words alone, we need the cohesion of the West, we need sanctions that force Moscow to stop its advance. Financial sanctions, to block the flow of money from Moscow to the Russian armed forces." This was said by the Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister, Antonio Tajani, speaking at SIOI (Italian Society for International Organisation), participating in the inauguration ceremony of the 2025-2026 academic year and of the preparation course for the diplomatic career competition. "One and a half million Russian soldiers, who are paid three times what the workers are paid, in case of backtracking means" that there would be "a social problem", just as a change from a war economy to a normal economy would be "a problem for the Russian economy", continued Tajani, adding that "so we must force Putin to do this".
